To some people music is simply the background to their lives, a form of expression, or an escape. To me, it's all that and more. It's about making a connection. I like to think of music as a magical constant. It's quite simple, really. Have you ever listened to a song that instantly took you back to a certain moment or place in time? That right there, is my favorite thing. It never ceases to amaze me how music has the ability to do that. How specific songs can remind us of certain people, emotions, scents, and times all based on a particular occasion that we heard it. It can be almost nostalgic, and that is an element I always keep in mind whenever I'm writing a song. That someday, my composed feelings will strike a chord with someone else, and ta-da! There's that magical constant.
